You’ll need to get in quick!
The BBC is offering students a day of workshops led by BBC Sport presenters and senior production staff: their chance to learn first hand from the pros about commentating, footballers turned pundits, sports press conferences and standing up football rumours.
It’ll be hosted by the editor of the World Cup for the BBC and the Match of the Day editor… and at the end of the day we’ll launch our World Cup Challenge – so students can apply for the chance for work placements during this summer’s big event. There are opportunities up for grabs within Radio Sport, Sports Interactive, and the Sports Newsroom.
If you love football, this is a fantastic – and rare – opportunity for real access and experience.
The workshop day will be held at the BBC in Manchester on 4th March 2010 between 10.30 and 4.30pm.
There are only 15 places available.
Please reply by 3rd February at the latest, explaining why you should be selected for this opportunity, to anna.lomas@manchester.ac.uk.
Yes, the BBC has set up a new scheme called its ‘Vision Intake Pool’ (VIP scheme) and they’re recruiting people to join a pool of runners in Manchester that they can draw on for short-term projects. The great news is that the scheme is designed for people with no or little production experience – it’s your attitude and potential that counts!
The deadline for applications is 31st January and if you’re successful in being selected to join the pool you can be called on to work on projects anytime from the end of March 2010 to the end of March 2011. (Although if you’re a finalist, don’t worry, you can still apply. The BBC have told us that: “For those currently in education, entry into the pool can be deferred until after graduation.”)
You will be paid according to the days you work at a rate of £15.5-16.5K pro-rata, and you’ll be assigned a ‘talent manager’ who’ll support you for the year and work with you on your availability for projects etc. You’ll also be eligible to apply for the BBC’s internal only vacancies, nice bonus!
If you’ve already graduated and will are based elsewhere in the UK, they also have opportunities for runners in Birmingham, Bristol or London and production management assistants (more of an admin support role) in Bristol or London.
