The Mancunion is looking for students with an interest in graphic design to play a vital role next year by designing the pages of the paper.
If you have a flair for design and would like to join the next year’s team they want to hear from you!
Not only will it be a great addition to your CV, it will be a great experience, helping to put together one of the largest student newspapers in the country.
Whilst it would be ideal for people with experience using Adobe InDesign, those without any knowledge of the software are also welcome as training will be provided.
Please be aware that as training is provided you would be expected to make an ongoing commitment to this over the course of the term.
Students from the University of Salford, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester are invited to get in touch.

SEO is delighted to announce the launch of Creative Access, a ground breaking partnership with leading firms in ALL of the major creative industries to provide ethnic minority students with access to internships and graduate careers in FILM, ADVERTISING, PERFORMING ARTS, PUBLISHING, JOURNALISM, TV and RADIO. The scheme is being sponsored by the CEOs of many of the UK’s leaders in these fields and will offer more than 300 internships / graduate roles in 2012-13 with global brands including Channel 4, ITV, All3 Media, NBC Universal, Wall to Wall, Shine TV, Mentorn Media, Juniper TV, The Ambassadors Theatre Group and many more.
Interested students are invited to attend one of two launch events for Creative Access, both of which will take place at CHANNEL 4’s HQ (near St James Park, central London) (on the evening of April 25th). No preparation will be required. The event is designed to provide students with:
- education about the wide range of careers available in the creative space from many of the leading names in these industries, many of whom are from ethnic minority backgrounds; and also
- an opportunity to network with both speakers and also senior representatives from all of the creative industries detailed above.
Full details of the SEO Creative Access Programme will be covered at the event and in subsequent communications from SEO. These receptions will be the first of many Creative Access events that SEO will be running in 2012. As with all other SEO programmes, by registering your interest in this scheme we will be able to provide you with access to a huge range of firms and also support through your interviews should you progress. All participating students will be provided with senior creative industry mentors and a comprehensive training programme to ensure you can impress.

We’ve just posted information on CareersLink on a one month paid placement with Decipher Media Research doing tasks such as analysing TV on demand content ( iPlayer, 4OD etc). It’s London based but don’t rule it out if you are not from London- it’s often possible to book cheapish accommodation in uni halls of residence. You can apply with any class of degree, so a brilliant opportunity for those not hitting a 2.1. Details in the link.
BBC work experience with Mastermind, Salford
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated, self-starting student or recent graduate to undertake a four week placement between mid-June and the end of November (depending on availability) with the production team of Mastermind. This is the perfect chance for a hard working individual to gain invaluable studio-based TV production experience and an insight into the workings of one of the BBC’s flagship and most successful brands.
You need to understand the nature of the programme and adhere to the confidentiality that surrounds it.
Duties may include supporting the production team in the office, on studio days and on location; maintaining the contributor database and the Mastermind email account; establishing and maintaining tape logging and interview cataloguing systems; actively contributing to the generation of ideas across the Entertainment Department; and ad hoc research into specialist subjects for briefing documents
This unpaid placement is full time and based at Media City UK, Salford.

The Network is the most prestigious and comprehensive introduction to working in TV in the UK. All you have to do is be is over 18 and passionate about TV.

The inaugural Manchester Film Festival will be held on 13th-15th April, and is aimed at showcasing the best student films from around the UK. There’s also a chance to attend a range of workshops and events that are taking place, designed to help students gain the skills and confidence to break into the media world.
