BBC Production Management Day – 13 March

BBC Production Management Day, Salford: 13^th March 2012

On 13^th March, there will be a BBC session for students interested in working in Business Support roles looking at career paths, opportunities, the skills you need to be a Production Manager, Production Coordinator and Production Management Assistant and talking through how the roles differ across BBC departments. There will be practical tasks to complete and, at the end of the day, there will be an opportunity to compete for work placements in these areas. All placements will be Salford based.

A very exciting opportunity has arisen with BBC DRAMA NORTH on the 3 x 60 minute BBC ONE drama THE SECRET OF CRICKLEY HALL, an adaptation of a haunted house novel that is due to transmit at Halloween. This is a fantastic chance to work out on location and oversee all aspects of a BBC drama production. The successful trainee will be based on set and main duties will include working alongside the assistant directors. There is also the potential opportunity to spend time with other departments according to your particular interest.

You will be expected to work long days and the hours will be irregular. You need to be able to drive and have your own transport as filming will be taking place all over the North West.

This is a4 week PAID placement that will start mid-end March. Shortlisted applicants will need to be availableTuesday 6^th March for interview.

Insight into Broadcasting and Journalism course – 26 and 27 March, 9-5pm

MA in Visual Anthropology, University of Manchester

Do you want to learn DOCUMENTARY FILM MAKING at the University of Manchester?

  If you are interested in learning how to make films, photography and visual methods and would like to learn more about the MA in Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester, you are invited to find out more about the programme on Wed February 22nd from 2pm to 3.30pm in G20 in the Arthur Lewis Building.   Granada Centre staff will talk about the programme and show clips of recent films made by MA and PhD graduates. Ex students will be on hand to show clips from their films and discuss the course.  

The Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester is widely recognised as the world’s leading centre for anthropological films and documentaries. Its graduates have produced more than 300 ethnographic films seen around the world and it is now at the forefront of the new dialogue between art and anthropology, including photography, sensory ethnography, practice-based methods and performance, digital media, and multi-media gallery installations. Students are provided with professional cameras, film-making and recording equipment, and are supported by a staff of internationally recognised researchers, anthropologists, film-makers and technicians, comprising the largest visual anthropology faculty in Europe.

 They welcome students from across the disciplines and the MA is tailored to meet the needs of different levels of anthropological and film-making experience, from people who have little or no background in anthropology, film production, visual methods and photography to those who may have substantial experience in one or more of these areas. The course combines an MA in anthropology and ethnographic research with practical training in documentary film-making and editing, photography and sound recording

 Manchester University students and graduates are able to make a Fast Track Application that guarantees a place on the course subject to getting a 2:1.

 Granada Centre graduates work in a wide range of academic, professional and media positions, including university professorships, working for the UN and television film-making including Tribe, Horizon and BBC and C4 Documentaries. The most recent news from 2011 is that Granada Centre graduates Andrew Palmer (as producer) and Gavin Searle (as director) won the BAFTA (the British equivalent of the Oscars) for Best Television Documentary Series for Welcome to Lagos (BBC/Keo Films).

Work experience opportunity – ITN

Can you demonstrate a passion for TV News? If you would like to experience life in a busy newsroom, ITN is offering a unique opportunity.   They want candidates from all cultures and backgrounds – people with ideas, enthusiasm, and creativity. The two week placement can take place in ITV News, Channel 4 News, or ITN Productions. It is open to anyone in the UK over the age of 18.

Applicants who are interested in the work experience programme for ITV News and Channel 4 News will work alongside experienced news specialists and have the opportunity to learn what it takes to produce a high quality news programme.

Applicants for the work experience programme for ITN Productions will work with experienced producers and learn the techniques used to make long and short form news programmes.

BBC – chance to perform in a special live broadcast

Participate in The Preston Passion!

The Preston Passion is a special live broadcast for Good Friday and a unique collaboration between the BBC and the Preston Guild.

The programme is a contemporary and dramatic re-telling of the Passion story, featuring an exciting combination of live performance, music and innovative pre-filmed drama and will be broadcast live on BBC One on Friday 6th April from an outdoor location in the centre of Preston.

We are looking for volunteer performers to participate in a once in a life time opportunity to perform in and be at the heart of the Preston Passion. You will be working shoulder to shoulder with an award winning professional team to create an epic broadcast  that will be at the centre of the BBC’s Easter celebrations.

Enthusiasm for the project, commitment to the rehearsal dates and some experience of the performing arts will fast track you into a team of like- minded colleagues to help create a truly memorable, live television spectacle in the heart of Preston city centre.

Live event director Mark Murphy says ‘To me, the greatest satisfaction arrives through achieving what might appear to be, at least to begin with, very nearly impossible. This is a highly ambitious idea that relies completely on the creativity and commitment of its performers and I whole heartedly believe you are both capable and out there!’
